As part of our “Looking Local” series, we recently spoke with Bill Dotson, President and Founder of White Plains-based Modern Door & Equipment Sales, Inc.

Modern Door & Equipment Sales, Inc. offers products in space management solutions. Founded in 1984, Modern Door partners with architects, owners and contractors to provide commercial work for a variety of markets. Modern Door is headquartered in White Plains, with a second office located in Midlothian, Va. The company offers services to customers in Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia and West Virginia.

Charles County Department of Economic Development (Department): What is your favorite part about living in Charles County?

Bill Dotson (BD): My favorite part about living in Charles County is the access to the rivers and creeks. The County is rich with history and has plenty of recreational things to do as well.

Department: What resources in Charles County have helped you to grow your business?

BD: I have worked directly with the Charles County Department of Economic Development and Peter Murphy, who is the President of the Commissioners. I’ve received great responses from both and felt a strong bond to the county government.

Department: What has been your company’s greatest success thus far?

BD: My company has many successes and like all, some setbacks. Our greatest success is that we continue to grow year after year, and have for over thirty years!

Department: What do you feel is the most important skill one needs to have to run his or her own business?

BD: I believe a great business leader is one who can create and maintain an organization with great customer service.

Department: Does your company have any future plans that you would like to share?
BD:
This year, Modern Door will open a new office in Richmond, Va. and hire new employees. We look forward to many new exciting projects in 2016, including the MGM and Trump-Hotels that are currently being built.
