Federal Contracting

The federal contracting industry has recently moved towards smaller and more nimble companies, making accessible but lower-cost locations like Charles County ideal for operations.

Federal contractors in Charles County benefit from its strategic location in the Washington DC metro area, highly skilled workforce, quality commercial and industrial space, and customer access. Nearly all of the Baltimore-Washington region's federal and military installations lie within a 40-mile radius of Waldorf, the County's most populous town.

Charles County is home to the 3,500 acre Naval Support Facility Indian Head, which houses the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technology Division (NSWCIHEODTD) and other technologies. NSWCIHEODTD is the first Navy activity to hold both depot- and arsenal-level Centers of Industrial and Technical Excellence (CITE) designation, allowing the Navy to enter into partnership with Chemring Ordnance. Under the four-year partnership, NSWCIHEODTD will manufacture Anti-Personnel Obstacle Breaching System APOBS propellant grains.
