Avening Management and Technical Services Advances the Mission

Posted by: Economic Development Team on Tuesday, October 22, 2019

Lee Platt is undeniably a woman on a mission. As CEO of Avening Management and Technical Services, she’s at the helm of an IT and cybersecurity company that supports government organizations focused on national security. When she decided to launch her company in 2013, her military background, business development experience, and technical prowess positioned her for long-term success.

From her hub in La Plata, Platt manages a team that’s 85 strong. From the Pentagon to Okinawa, Anchorage to New Orleans, the AveningTech team supports the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and the Coast Guard in a range of technical capacities. Regardless of location, Platt’s team takes pride in their national security-focused projects, and holds clearances appropriate to their missions.

While it’s true that much IT service management can be handled remotely, the classified nature of AveningTech’s work requires employees to work onsite with their clients. AveningTech’s territory is worldwide, but Platt, as a Charles County resident, wants to keep their home base local. Citing Charles County’s relative proximity, Platt enjoys the ease of access, without the metropolitan hustle and bustle.

Platt’s decision to live in Charles County has had a great impact on AveningTech’s location. “We choose Charles to live and work because of the quality of life,” she says. Taking cues from their CEO, some AveningTech employees have followed suit, commuting from Charles County to posts at Quantico and the Pentagon.

While Platt is always thinking globally, she’d love to see more federal clients become local to Charles County. Charles County’s convenience, low business costs, contracting strengths, and workforce will undoubtedly lure other federal agencies beyond the Beltway!
