Since 1922, the Charles County Public Library (CCPL) has constantly evolved to serve community needs. The library’s mission, to create opportunities for the community to engage, discover and learn endless possibilities, has spread outside the realm of books and media. Over the years, CCPL has developed many workforce initiatives to provide services and opportunity to the community. These initiatives contribute to the state-wide goal for Maryland public libraries to collaborate, prioritize, and implement workforce resources for the community.
Virtual Database Resources
Although the library has been closed to the public, that has not stopped the workforce goal. The library's virtual database includes resources such as:
- Brainfuse (Write a Winning Resume, Career Help),
- Encyclopedia of Small Business (GALE),
- Foundation Center Database
- LinkedIn Learning Library,
- Gale OneFile: Leadership and Management,
- Occupational Outlook Handbook,
- Small Business Collection (GALE),
- Vocations and Careers Collection (GALE)
All of these databases are available through the CCPL website, under the Research and Learn tab. The library also provides a digital Employment Resource Center with many helpful links and guidelines for workforce development. Library resources and workforce related content is often shared via our CCPL at Home blog, such as, 10 Helpful LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com) Videos for Job Hunters and more.
Virtual Workshops for Young Adults
In addition to online databases, CCPL is still offering workforce resources through virtual programming. Connect 2 Success (C2S) is a series of workforce development virtual programming for young adults. Connect 2 Success week kicks off at the end of March, where the library will be offering a variety of programs, such as:
- Federal Resume Writing Workshop (March 25)
- Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Program (March 29)
- Group Mock Interviews (March 29th)
- Marketing Yourself in a Tight Job Market (March 30)
- Individual Mock Interviews (March 30)
- Jump Start Your Career with LinkedIn (March 31)

Future In-Person Outreach
In the future the Charles County Public Library plans on continuing its in-person outreach initiatives for the community, such as the Young Adult Job Fair hosted at the Waldorf West location. Waldorf West also houses the SOAR innovation space, which is designed to be a one-stop-shop destination for creativity, entrepreneurship, employment, and lifelong learning. The library has partnered with Southern Maryland Legal Aid in the past. CCPL partners with the Charles County Detention Center to provide library cards to the individuals there, as well as deliver workforce related programming such as computer skill training and resume writing workshops and assisting with their annual re-entry fair. The library partners with Southern Maryland JobSource, which provides a JobSource vehicle that currently visits our branches. For more information and a schedule, please visit the CCPL Events Calendar.
