We will have a state of the industry address on Maryland’s Hospitality and Tourism from the following presenters, Colan Vance, Director of Operations for The Indigo Road Hospitality Group, Sherrie Tennessee, Director of Education SpaSOS, and Chris Riehl, owner and President of Rent-A-Tour.


Colan Vance has years of Hospitality experience and is a true restaurant and hotel expert. He has served in roles such Director of Operations for The Indigo Road Hospitality Group (Charleston, SC), Director of Food and Beverage at San Ysidro Ranch of Ty Warner Hotel and Resorts (Santa Barbara, CA). Conducted restaurant development work in Washington, DC and Jamaica, W.I. Before that, Vance worked at The French Laundry (Yountville, CA) and The Inn at Little Washington (Washington, VA). He is a professor with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and lives on the Eastern Shore.


Sherrie Tennessee has 20 years of experience in the spa industry including the role of a massage therapist, nail tech, spa owner, speaker, professor, educator, podcast host, and author. In addition to receiving multiple awards throughout her career, Sherrie’s writings have been published in some highly respected industry outlets, and she has been a Keynote Speaker in many public forums. Sherrie published her first book in 2016; How to Open a Day Spa:31-Day Guide. Ms. Tennessee has worked at several well-known institutions and luxury brands including, Johnson and Wales University, Sandals Resorts International, as well as Mandarin Oriental. Sherrie is a Certified Hospitality Educator and Certified Hospitality Trainers with American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute. Ms. Tennessee has a BS in Biology, an MBA specializing in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, and recently completed a Graduate Program Certificate training in Integrative Health and Wellness. Chris Riehl is the owner and president of Rent-A-Tour providing itinerary planning and guide services in the Baltimore-Washington region, and helping thousands of visitors create unforgettable experiences. He’s passionate about sharing stories that showcase just how special a place Baltimore is and believes that the tourism and hospitality industry plays a crucial role in supporting jobs and economic development. He created the Baltimore-ientation program to help hospitality professionals discover compelling stories about their city in order to better connect with guests and enhance the visitor experience. He is also the president of the Baltimore Tourism Association and sits on the board of both the Maryland Tourism Coalition and Federal Hill Main Street.
