Charles County Economic Development Unveils BGAP 360

New program to empower local small businesses in key industries

Published Thursday, December 12, 2024

The Charles County Economic Development Department (EDD) is proud to announce the launch of its new BGAP 360 initiative, a continuation of the successful Business Growth Advantage Program (BGAP) introduced in 2022. BGAP was created to address the needs of growing businesses in Charles County and help mitigate business impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

BGAP 360 builds on this foundation by offering advanced training tailored to meet specific industries' unique challenges and opportunities. Focusing on sustainability and growth, the program equips entrepreneurs with modern strategies and timeless principles to adapt and thrive. After a competitive application process, 54 Charles County businesses, all graduates of the BGAP program, were selected for further training in BGAP 360.

“BGAP 360 reflects our ongoing commitment to empowering small businesses across Charles County,” said EDD Director Kelly Robertson-Slagle. “By providing tailored support through innovative tracks, we are investing in the success of our local entrepreneurs and fostering a resilient and diverse economy.”

About BGAP 360

BGAP 360 is a two-year program offering customized support through three targeted tracks. The program focuses on scalability, industry-specific solutions, and advanced business strategies. Businesses applied to participate in one of the three distinct tracks: Business Expansion and Innovation, X Quay Accelerator, or Salon and Spa.

  • Expansion & Innovation

Participants: 24 businesses

This track serves businesses from diverse sectors seeking to refine operations, expand market presence, and innovate offerings. Guided by 10 seasoned trainers and mentors, participants focus on advanced marketing, operational efficiency, product development, and innovative business strategies.

  • X Quay Accelerator

Participants: 19 businesses

This track is facilitated by WEVE Acceleration Inc. (dba Cela), tailored for businesses in Charles County's target industries and those ready for scaling. Participants receive advanced strategic scaling, product innovation, and operational optimization training through tailored mentorship, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities.

  • Salon & Spa

Participants: 11 businesses

Led by Tina Chestnut, Founder of The Ardent Factory, this track is designed specifically for the salon and spa industry. It focuses on building robust business systems, creating independent teams, and transitioning owners from hands-on roles to strategic leadership.

Each BGAP 360 track combines expert guidance, a collaborative learning environment, and targeted resources to empower small businesses and equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in today’s competitive marketplace and beyond.

“The EDD is committed to providing local businesses with the tools, resources, and expertise needed to thrive in today’s competitive market,” said EDD Chief of Business Services Lucretia Freeman-Buster. “BGAP 360 is designed to go beyond foundational business skills, empowering participants with advanced strategies that foster innovation, drive revenue growth, create jobs, and build a stronger local economy.”
