Meet the Chief of Commercial Development, Taylor Yewell

Posted by: Economic Development Team on Tuesday, December 5, 2023

As the Chief of Commercial Development at Charles County Economic Development Department, Taylor Yewell is at the forefront of advocating and streamlining employment-supporting development efforts across the county. His core responsibilities are to facilitate commercial development, redevelopment, and attendant business development.

For Taylor, the most rewarding aspect of his role is observing the tangible outcomes of the team's hard work – whether it's witnessing the transformation of dilapidated buildings or reinvigorating abandoned properties to accommodate thriving businesses.

Taylor brings a wealth of experience in management and consultancy to the CCEDD. His extensive portfolio includes various public and private real estate and economic development initiatives across the U.S. Before diving into economic development consulting, he served as the Manager of Economic Development at Washington Gas, a major public utility serving the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. His proficiency encompasses transit-oriented development, community revitalization, market feasibility studies, public/private partnerships, and economic development planning. Adding to his credentials, Taylor holds a Master of Real Estate degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Taylor works with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD) and believes "they are one of the most important operations in Charles County with regard to employment, new business attraction, and overall economic vitality.  Important redevelopment projects such as the Velocity Center and the Maryland Technology Center can be directly attributed to activities associated with the NSWC IHD.”

Regarding his favorite part of Charles County, Taylor is particularly fond of Benedict, a picturesque waterside village enriched with over three centuries of maritime history.

An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Yewell enjoys sailing, fishing, and spending time with his family. He is married with three grown children and a granddaughter.
