The Charles County Economic Development Department (EDD) is thrilled to welcome Molly Meehan as our Agriculture and Rural Development Manager.
As a longtime resident of Charles County and passionate advocate for sustainable agriculture, Molly brings more than two decades of experience in farming, education, and local food systems to her new role supporting the county’s agriculture and resource-based industries.
As the Agriculture and Rural Development Manager, Molly will expand and promote the agricultural sector through innovative programming, marketing, and strategic partnerships. Her focus is on helping producers diversify, sustain, and grow their operations while increasing public engagement with local agriculture. “The opportunity to serve our local agricultural community is the most rewarding part of this work,” she shared. “The connection between land and community has always been my passion.”
Prior to joining the Economic Development Department, Molly’s career reflects a deep-rooted commitment to connecting land, food, and community. She brings a multifaceted perspective to agricultural development, drawing from diverse experience in marketing, business development, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) management, agritourism, farmers markets, and farmers market matching dollar initiatives supporting federal nutritional benefits programs, among other areas. Her leadership has spanned positions at Stonewall Farm and Education Center, FRESHFARM, and the Accokeek Foundation—each focused on advancing regional food systems and land-based education.
As a Maryland native, Molly lives in Charles County with her family on their farmstead. In fact, she’s already drawing inspiration from the county’s strong-rooted farming network. One of her favorite local businesses is Red Tree Farmstead. “[Co-owners] Becky and Mark do an amazing job with cut flowers, value-added products, as well as their other farm offerings,” Molly said, citing the farm as a great example of the innovation and community spirit that define Charles County’s rural economy.
With Molly’s expertise and vision, the EDD will continue to strengthen local agriculture, champion rural entrepreneurship, and ensure that farming remains a dynamic and sustainable part of Charles County’s future.
