Morgantown

Morgantown Generating Station, a former coal-fired power plant in southern Charles County, closed in 2022. In early 2026, TeraWulf, a Maryland-based energy and digital infrastructure company, purchased the 355-acre property with plans to bring new purpose to the site. Redevelopment will occur in phases, beginning with significant environmental remediation and modernization of the site’s energy generation facilities. Future phases are expected to include battery storage facilities and a data center campus, positioning the property for long-term reuse and investment.
